Harvest Intern

We need help making the wine! Longplay Wine and Élevée Winegrowers both make wine in the Longplay Winemaking Facility. This is a unique opportunity to be involved in every aspect of harvest and wine production. It almost will be like working two harvests in one! You’ll be part of a 3-person team, working one-on-one with both Todd Hansen (Longplay Wine) and Tom Fitzpatrick (Élevée Winegrowers). You essentially will be running the cellar and doing much of the work involved in the production of the wines.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Operate forklift to unload fruit bins, weigh fruit, and dump fruit onto sorting line or into press
  • Meticulously prepare and clean crush pad equipment, fermenters, and press
  • Move, lift, and wash barrels and other equipment
  • Perform pump-overs and punch-downs
  • Clean and operate membrane press
  • Monitor, measure, and record data from ferments
  • Cleaning … lots and lots of cleaning

Qualifications:

  • Must be hard working, reliable, and very, very meticulous
  • Capable of lifting 40+ pounds and not mind getting dirty and sticky
  • Tolerance for yellow jackets, ladybugs, and earwigs (or, as we like to call them, “ticklebugs”)
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, up to 10-14 hour days, seven days a week (for a span of a few weeks)
  • Must have transportation to the winery
  • Eligible for employment in the United States
  • Forklift driving and wine production experience preferred, but will certainly consider a highly motivated, “quick to catch on,” and capable candidate

We’re looking for someone to start mid-September and work until about the end of October or so. This is the ideal harvest position for an individual interested in exposure to all facets of wine production. This will be really hard, but rewarding work … and lots of fun!

If you’re interested in helping out in the tasting room we can adjust the start/end dates to meet your needs.

Pay is hourly, DOE, and we pay 1.5x after 40 hours in a week. The first and last weeks are pretty chill, the rest can be intense.

At Longplay we believe every individual merits our respect and consideration regardless of, inter alia, race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, nation of origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital status, disability, gender identity, Veteran status.
